The Eco-Transformation of Our Home – Video E-Course

 In Built Environment, Featured, Permaculture Projects

Nestled in southeast Calgary is one of the city’s original thriving permaculture projects – our home!

And now we are offering an exclusive opportunity to learn all about it…online in our new Video E-Course!

As engineers and long-time permaculture designers and teachers, we’ve travelled the world to learn about sustainable and regenerative human habitat and have implemented many of these concepts on our property. We’ve been transforming our inner-city home into a permaculture demonstration site since 2009.

We’ve received rave reviews from our popular and often sold-out yard tours, but have not shared much about this project with our online community… until now!

Watch this 1 hour Video E-Course & Learn about:

  • Water: principles of slowing and storing water, swales, rainwater collection, irrigation, drought-proofing, self-watering garden beds,  and greywater;
  • Energy: Our outdoor earth oven, urban lumber, our passive solar greenhouse & rocketmass heater, heat-recovery unit, and re-insulation
  • Soil: improving soil quality, importance of mulch and growing nutrient-dense food;
  • Food: food-print statistics, importance of local food, perennial & low-maintenance food forestry strategies, increasing urban bio-diversity and habitat, super-productive veggie gardens;
  • Waste: Using urban waste streams, nutrient-cycling, composting, composting toilets;
  • Community: How our community (local and beyond) is being improved from our actions.

Thanks Rob. A very enjoyable and informative look at what can be done in the city. We are soon to leave our small farm on the east coast to move to Ottawa so I’m very encouraged to see how you’ve done so much to grow your property and also grow your community. One of the first things I checked into was the Ottawa permaculture crowd and hopefully it will turn out to be as vibrant as the Calgary community. Thanks again for sharing 🙂

Hi Rob,
We thoroughly enjoyed the video.

We saw Luke Kimmel at the Calgary Garden show and promptly joined the permaculture guild. That’s where we met you and took your one day course in May.

Now we have almost completed a swale in our front yard with a 250 gallon water tank! We have a couple of fruit trees with guilds going on and big ideas for the future!

We’ve definitely caught the permaculture bug!

Great work Rob, we’ll put together, this is a very inspiring piece.
I live in rural Australia. 170 acres. Have done online PDC with Geoff Lawton, and have begun the long but enjoyable road to sustainability in community. As you say, in Australia the rain water, solar hot water stuff is very common, in some places you can get away with compost toilets. But, I haven’t convinced my husband of that yet.
Cheers, and keep up the good work, many are watching you from afar.
