THE PERMACULTURE PRIMER
Verge’s Introductory Permaculture Course
We’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve been asked “So – what is permaculture, exactly?” It’s usually the first question in a lively conversation that starts with the social and environmental mess we’re facing, and ends with the affirmation that yes, there is a way that we can meet our needs while not only preserving, but enhancing eco-system health!
But up to now, you would need to invest in our 72 hour Permaculture Design Certificate to get the full, world-changing answer. Why? Because the full answer involves a fundamental shift in your understanding of how life, the eco-system, and the planet function…and that’s not something we can give in a brief convo!
This first-time-ever program is your best way to get a taste of the potential that permaculture offers for your garden, your community, and our planet….your best way to determine whether our world-class Permaculture Design Certificate is the one for you…and your best way to have a head start on the full program!
If you’ve ever wondered what the big deal is about permaculture – or if you have enough of an idea to want to learn more – or if you’re looking for a way to do good for the planet while you build a successful life for yourself – you’ll never have a better opportunity to get your questions answered.

THE PERMACULTURE TRANSITION MANUAL: A Comprehensive Guide to Resilient Living
Courtesy of Summit Sponsor New Society Publishers
But what proven tools are available to aid in making a successful, deliberate transition to a resilient, sustainable future?
For the first time, the power of permaculture design has been brought to bear on the great transition problem. In the process, acclaimed permaculture teacher and designer Ross Mars has distilled his considerable knowledge into the ultimate resource for resilient living.
The Permaculture Transition Manual is packed with information on permaculture design principles, soil building, nutrient-dense food growing, including top plant and tree selections for all climatic zones. Coverage extends to rainwater harvesting and irrigation, human waste management, and strategies for rural properties plus a unique focus on applying permaculture to small urban spaces for decluttering and efficient food growing. Also covered are hand tools, food preservation, energy production, and low-carbon housing and a plethora of nearly forgotten skills such as soap making, basket weaving, seed saving, and rope and candle making, and more.
On the desert island of a world in decline this is the one-stop guide to vibrant, resilient living you’ll want to take with you.
Ross Mars is a highly regarded permaculture teacher, designer and consultant. He is author of landmark The Basics of Permaculture Design and three other permaculture books, as well as two DVDs on energy efficient housing design and renewable energy systems. Ross manages Candlelight Farm, a permaculture demonstration site and training center in Western Australia. Over the past decade, he has delivered dozens of basic, design, advanced and diploma-level Permaculture Courses. Both a scientist with a PhD in Environmental Science and an entrepreneur, Mars also manufactures and supplies greywater and rainwater tank systems, and installs waterwise gardens and water-sensible irrigation systems.
