ESSENTIAL RAINWATER HARVESTING COURSE
Get the essential tools, methods, and technical know-how to design and maintain home-scale rainwater harvesting systems!
Created in partnership with pioneering Australian hydrology engineer, economist, policy analyst, educator, U.N. advisor and independent researcher Peter J. Coombes, Ph.D., this in-depth, step-by-step training is the first to offer scientifically tested and proven information that isn’t widely available in North America!
- Learn how a leading-edge RWH system works in relationship to homes, properties, and their surrounding ecosystem
- Break down the myths and discover what is and isn’t a risk in rainwater
- Discover the science and research supporting a natural treatment approach
- See how you can design and build chemical-free RWH purification and storage systems for irrigation, washing – even cooking and drinking!
This course reflects decades of studies by independently funded researchers, particularly in Australia, where over 3 million people drink rainwater daily. The vast majority of these RWH systems do not include end-of-line disinfection… and rainwater-drinking Australians are as healthy or healthier than those relying on municipal treated water.
Take a look at our sneak-peek video to preview our innovative teaching format …
“Tutorial” takes on a whole new/ancient meaning with Michelle proxying for you as a student, asking questions in response to Peter’s one-on-one mentoring.
And the groundbreaking content doesn’t stop with the classes!
When you join this Essential Rainwater Harvesting Course, all of this is yours – forever!

Here’s What Our Alumni Have to Say…
As an ancient yet nearly-lost activity in most industrialized areas, rainwater capture and use (harvesting) is really a necessary component to site-based sustainability practices. Essential Rainwater Harvesting outlines the 'how-to's' and 'what-for's' of the critical aspects of RWH systems in simple yet detailed language, and includes a well-thought-through design process that really works! Kudos to the Avis team for sifting through the myriad reports, practices and options to create a nicely articulated formula for success. Can't wait to see what's next.
With it's most up to date information and clarity of presentation, this book can help anyone become an effective water designer. Homeowners, professionals, and activists will all find it an essential companion to assist them as they begin to catch volumes of unappreciated water, and convert it instead into endless abundance.
Thank you for all your work on the book and this class. My projects, designs and teaching will never be the same... they are now better. 🙂
I liked the structure of the course, from high level context, value of RWH and systems thinking to the specific demand/supply calculations and detailed parameters to consider in the system design. I didn't realize the extent of impact that household RWH could have on its urban municipal storm water system. I also didn't know that a chemical free treatment train can produce very high quality drinking water. I really liked how Peter gave the 'industry standards' and then was able to explain the assumptions behind those standards. It was a refreshing perspective and gave me confidence to challenge 'standards' by digging deeper into them.
