Our Permaculture Design Certificate includes a 5-hour Introduction to Permaculture video course (The Permaculture Primer) that all students are expected to watch prior to the first class. It is accessible to students the moment they register.

Our 2024 Spring PDC will be divided into 3 parts.

    1. Live Online Sessions (May 23 to June 17) – 8 sessions delivered 2x weekly, over 4-weeks. Classes will be hosted live on Monday and Thursday from 3pm to 6pm Mountain time.  Please note: Sessions are recorded and posted in the online portal within 24 – 48 hours for anyone not able to attend live.
    2. On-Demand (June 18 to July 19) – A selection of pre-recorded 3-hour sessions will be available for students to complete on their own time over 4-weeks.
    3. In-Person Learning Intensive (July 22 to 27) – 6 full-day sessions  (9am to 6pm daily) hosted in Calgary, Alberta.

PDC class format: 2 hours are dedicated to lectures from the instructors and 1 hour is dedicated to Q&A from students. The Q&A portion of each session is optional. We recommend that you attend live for the greatest benefit (see the course schedule for dates and times), but you can also watch the recordings if you happen to miss a session (see the FAQ about catching up on missed sessions here).

Outside of class time, you will be assigned a number of optional assignments and knowledge checks. The assignments do not need to be submitted but you are encouraged to complete them as they will help you proactively prepare your final project. You are also welcome to review any content at your leisure. One to two hours of additional time per week should be more than enough time to complete assignments.

At the end of the course, we also provide students with access to office hours sessions (in small groups) to support them with the completion of their final projects. During this time, there are no lectures and office hours will be hosted at the same time as our regularly scheduled live online classes (between 3pm – 6pm MT; Monday & Thursday) .

Students must complete and submit a Final Design Project before the final due date in order to be awarded a certificate in Permaculture Design. For more questions about the Final Design Project go here.
