In the last few months, the word permaculture has been popping up all over the place in the media:
- Western Canadian-based magazine, The Western Producer, featured Julia & Jason of Southern Alberta Permaculture, a young couple from Lethbridge who are employing permaculture on their acreage, December 2012 issue (http://bit.ly/z9Bd7)
- The Jasper Place Permaculture Project made the front page of the Edmonton Journal on January 23rd, 2012 (http://bit.ly/zCY1dQ)
- Rob Avis of Calgary-based Verge Permaculture was featured on the front page of the Regina Leader-Post on February 28th, 2012 (http://bit.ly/GS08pp)
- the University of Massachusetts permaculture project was awarded a significant achievement award and featured in a White House sponsored debate on March 15th, 2012 (http://1.usa.gov/zREAPS)
Yet many people are still unfamiliar with the term “permaculture”.
In a nutshell, permaculture provides tools for using our landscapes to reduce our ecological footprint, enhance habitat and become more self-reliant and more sustainable.
Toby will be in Calgary teaching a three day course and on on Friday March 30th at 7pm he will be giving a presentation about permaculture to the public at the John Dutton Theater.
If you are tired of hearing: “permacu…cu..what?” from your family and friends this is your opportunity! Bring them out to this event as Toby can simplify and explain these ideas like no other.
Toby will share how this ecological design approach creates landscapes and communities that not only produce food and beauty for people, but also shelter birds and beneficial insects, conserve water and energy, maintain soil health and enhance biodiversity.
This event is co-sponsored by the Calgary Horticultural Society, the Calgary Public Library Foundation and Verge Permaculture. 100% of proceeds will be going to support community initiatives such as two new community gardens being located at library branches in the City of Calgary. and future events.
Hope to see you there!
